Schools Workshop

Do you have high school students looking for extension in their photography work?

Students will join photobook makers and teachers Mckayla Woodroffe and Ben Girven to learn how to create a strong body of work and sequence it into a collaborative photobook.

This series of workshops will run from March to July of 2026 and guide rangatahi through the photobook development process. Students will work together to create a guiding concept, sequence images, design and construct their collaborative photobook. Our goal is to offer an extension opportunity to talented rangatahi and for them to have their work seen by the wider Aotearoa photographic community.

Workshops include:
•    introduction to the process of compiling a photobook
•    presentation from industry experts on how a photobook is made
•    developing a collaborative creative process between rangatahi
•    learning how to build a compelling narrative through images
•    guidance through the photobook design and assembly process
•    the final photobook will be launched as part of the 2026 Photobook/NZ Festival programme and images will be displayed in
an exhibition at the Ruth Gottlieb Library in Kilbirnie. All workshop participants and their schools will receive a copy of the
final photobook.
