Katrin Koenning talks to Kathryn Ryan about how she has exceeded the limits of the everyday camera phone, as well as the unusual way her debut book Astres Noires (Black Stars) came into being via Instagram. She also weighs into the debate about whether Instagram is the future of photographic publishing.

Landscape photographer a patient and prescient observer

Jem Southam is renowned for his series of colour landscape photographs, beginning in the 1970s, and continuing till the present. His trademark is the patient observation of changes at a single location over many months or years. His work combines topographical observation with other references; personal, cultural, political, scientific, literary and psychological to comment on issues ranging from rural decay to the differences in British landscape photography compared to its American counterparts.
